Kirchschlag is a lively small town in the Bucklige Welt region, on the southernmost tip of Lower Austria, bordering the Burgenland. The lovingly renovated castle ruin thrones over the valley, the award winning rose garden invites you to take a break and enjoy. Traditional festivities, concerts, sports events,.. are held throughout the year - our hotel is the ideal starting point.

Advent market at the castle ruin Kirchschlag:  each year on the 1st or 2nd weekend of December & on 8th December. Enjoy traditional Advent flair at its best!
The soft rolling landscape around Kirchschlag feels calm and relaxed, waiting to be discovered. The spacious open air pool in Kirchschlag is open June to September each year. The lively ice skating rink right in the center of town is a well loved winter meeting place for children and adults alike.

In a 5 year cycle, life and death of Jesus Christ has been performed in a passion play by locals since 1932. Next season is August to October 2020

Hiking & Biking


South of Vienna starts the „Wiener Alpenbogen“. From the hills of the Bucklige Welt, it rises up to the Wechsel and the Semmering. Rax and Schneeberg are its hightest points, before it lowers again to the Hohe Wand. A hiking trail leads in 19 stages, all together 300 kms long, all along.

The "Schnidahahn" used to be the traditional feast at the end of a successfull harvesting season. Nowadays it stands for locally produced, delicious food and drink in the Bucklige Welt. Restaurants, farms, producers offer a range of highlights from June to Octobre.


Historically, the Bucklige Welt was a border region. This can be seen in its many castles and ruins, but also in its churches, fortified to protect the local population at times of attack or invasion. This route takes you along these churches and tells their stories.


Celts at Schwarzenbach

How about the ancient celtic settlement at Schwarzenbach? The yearly festival is a special highlight.

The birthplace of Franz Liszt has developed into a renowned venue. The festival in Raiding draws international music stars as well as music lovers.

Lockenhauser chamber music festival

20 kms from Kirchschlag is the majestic Lockenhaus castle. A place where chamber music has been celebrated for many years. The festival takes place every year at the beginning of July.

Central Europe´s largest castle ruin Landsee is situated in a nature park (Landseer Berge). Easy driving distance (11 kms from Kirchschlag) or a lovely hike ove r the hills of the Bucklige Welt through Lembach and Blumau.
